Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers to common questions about numiPro.
Does numi Pro only feature coins from the Royal Canadian Mint?
Yes. For now. We started with collectable coins from the Royal Canadian Mint as they are the world leader in minting technology. The Royal Canadian Mint produces some of the world's most valuable numismatic collectables. Their capabilities have led to some of the most impressive and technically challenging coin designs ever struck. These collectables are bought and sold across the globe and represent some of the best performing numismatic investments found anywhere - which numi Pro's market analysis clearly demonstrates.
Does numi Pro feature circulation coins?
No. numi Pro is only focused on collectable numismatics. There are numerous high quality apps on the market for valuating and assessing circulation coins and a well established network of firms that grade circulation coins. numi Pro focuses on collectable numismatics which we see as unique forms of art that are proven investment vehicles.
How many coins are in numi Pro's database?
There are currently more than 3,300 coins in the numi Pro database and counting. We are always expanding the numi Pro database both historically and presently as new numismatic collectables hit the market.
How far back does the numi Pro database go?
numi Pro's database currently extends back to 2007. We are always expanding the numi Pro database with the goal of going back as far as available market and historic data will allow.
How does numi Pro determine a coin's value?
numi Pro valuates each collectable using historic market data points through to current day. These market data points are averaged over all time, along with 30, 60, and 90 day time periods. If a market average falls below the current melt value of a collectable, its valuation defaults to the melt value. numi Pro specifically distinguishes between "sold" market data and "for sale" market data. Valuations are based entirely on sold market prices.
What kinds of data sources does numi Pro use?
We scour the globe for collectables market data. numi Pro's data sources include brick-and-mortar retailers, eBay sellers, auction houses, social media, and numerous online market places. We are constantly expanding the number of online data sources.
How often is market data updated?
At a minimum, numi Pro's market data is updated every day. Each data source is updated on a custom schedule that depends on how popular it is and how often inventory fluctuates. For popular data sources, numi Pro can update as often as every hour.
Can I export my collection data?
numi Pro allows you to export a PDF catalog of your collection of numismatics that contains images of your coins, their specifications, and latest market value for each coin and your collection in total. numi Pro's PDF export contains a summary of your collection's market performance measured from the time of its creation.
Can I sell coins using numi Pro?
No. numi Pro does not allow you to sell coins using the app. It does however, identify some of the top numismatic vendors and their contact details. Many of these vendors purchase collectables from private collectors, sell collectables on consignment, or can potentially find the right buyer for your collectable.
Can I buy coins using numi Pro?
Not directly, but: numi Pro displays all of the "for sale" offers of any collectable in the the database and links directly to the seller's website. numi Pro makes it incredibly easy and fast to source collectables from thousands of sellers worldwide. With numiALERTS, you can configure notifications for any coin in the database and be notified when it becomes available, or at a specific price or price range. Then sit back and let numi Pro scan the entire market and let the data come to you via email, SMS, or Telegram.
Can I add coins to numi Pro myself?
No. numi Pro's database is carefully curated by our numismatic experts to ensure the highest accuracy for specifications and the highest quality of images and video. We also take great care to include as much descriptive information and narratives a possible for every collectable.
Will numi Pro ever include coins from other mints?
Yes. Stay tuned!
Is there a mobile version of numi Pro?
It's in progress. Stay tuned!
Why is numi Pro accessed through remote desktop?
numi Pro is powered by a massive amount of data. Making an app that is responsive with so much data underneath is no easy thing. If numi Pro was an app installed on your PC, it would end up occupying hundreds of gigabytes! Terabytes even. While you might have the space for it, most people would not have an internet connection capable of keeping numi Pro's market data in sync with our servers. With a remote desktop connection, numi Pro is an app that runs inside our data centre, right next to the servers that power it. It doesn't get any faster or more responsive than that. Because Remote Desktop is so efficient, even if you don't have a great Internet connection, numi Pro is just as fast and responsive as if it was installed on your computer.
How many data sources does numi Pro have?
Um... A lot. Hundreds of retailers, dozens of auctions, and thousands of sellers across the world. And we're always expanding.
Why do some coins have little or no market data?
Some numismatic collectables don't have a lot of market data because they so rarely change hands. If you're trying to source a coin with a mintage below 100, for example, many owners rarely or never sell. numi Pro normally has dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of market data points for any given collectable, but there are a few where there are few or even none. That just tells you how valuable a particular collectable really could be. But don't fret. If there was ever a chance you could find a rare collectable that seems unobtainable, your best bet is numiALERTS. Configure an alert and you will be notified when a collectable you can never seem to find finally becomes available.
Can I be a beta tester for future versions of numi Pro?
We are always looking for testers because we are always improving numi and developing new features. Send us an email to betatesters@numisoft.ca
